Bear River Llamas Clifton, Idaho

Nestled at the base of beautiful mountains and the Caribou National Forest making it possible to pack right from our facility.

Bear River Llamas specializing in the classic working llama for packing and guarding. We rent working llamas and pack gear for exciting adventures in the Idaho backcountry. The classic working llamas make it possible to reach high mountain lakes for fishing, elk and deer for rifle and bow hunting, or take your whole family on a wilderness adventure. Enjoy hikes on high mountain trails, breathtaking scenery, warm campfires while you get in touch with nature and let the llamas do all the packing.  Llamas are excellent companions in the wilderness leaving practically no signs that they were even there.

If you love to hike, fish, pack, enjoy nature, take photographs, or bird watch you will love it even more while you are leading one of our good natured pack llamas up the trail.

  • Llamas having pads not hooves are easy on fragile areas.
  • Llamas are very low maintinence needing to pack  very little of their own food leaving more room for ours. Their grazing style reduces overgrazing in backcountry meadows.
  •  Llamas are easy to transport, we have even had two in our mini van.
  •  Easy to train and safe to handle.
  • Llamas can walk appoximately 2 miles an hour (about 8 to 10 miles per day) and can carry 60 to 80 pounds of gear per animal. They move at the perfect pace for hikers.
  • Llamas make it possible to pack a plastic cooler for cold food. And rubbermaid containers for storage.
  • Llamas can be tied together to form a pack string making it possible for one person to lead several animals.
  • Llamas do spit but rarely at humans, usually it is just a result of our being in the crossfire. SPIT HAPPENS!
